On Stage & Off has come a very long way since it’s inception in the early 80’s. Originally titled “Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Center”, the company began as a dinner theatre with many other activities tied to it. Formed by Will and Susan Liegel as an outlet for their creative abilities and a way to open the performing arts to the community, Kaleidoscope ran children’s theatre, family theatre, theatre for young performers, and a small summer camp. Renting space from all over the area, the business slowly began to grow. When they officially began offering children's programming in 1985, the comapny was renamed Theatre & Kids, and became the area’s top performing arts groups for families. Will and Susan became full time teachers, but continued to run the program as a side venture.
After making a connection with the North Penn School District through their outreach program, North Penn Community Education, Theatre & Kids was able to expand their offerings, now hosting Saturday morning theatre classes, two full-day summer camps, a treble-voiced children’s choir, and several full-length children’s productions each year. In 2000, they were contacted by the owners of the Washington House Restaurant in Sellersville. The owners asked if Theatre & Kids would want to become the resident theatre group for their new theatre space being opened the following year, Sellersville Theatre 1894. At this point, the Liegels decided to incorporate themselves as a new umbrella business, with all their existing performing arts programs falling neatly in place underneath it. On Stage & Off, Inc. was born!
Although no longer working with ST94 at this time, On Stage & Off, Inc. can boast to work with almost 1,000 children and young adults in the greater North Penn area every year.
